The Development of Disciplines and Majors in the School of Telecommunications Engineering

  • 1931-1948, to primarily train telegraphy service officer;
  • 1948, to primarily train radio engineering and radio service personnel;
  • 1950, set up a series of majors, including Radio Engineering, Electrical engineering, Radio Maintenance and so on;
  • 1963, set up the major of Radio Communication;
  • 1966, offer the major of Radio Communication, the major of Information Theory;
  • 1970, set up the major of Wireless Communication Engineering;
  • 1971, offer three majors: Radio Communication, Long-Wave Communication and Navigation, Information Theory;
  • 1981, start Master’s and Doctor’s degree programs in the discipline of Communications and Electronic Systems (now: Communication and Information System);
  • 1983, offer majors of Radio Communication, Information Theory, and Electronic Engineering;
  • 1984, rearrange the majors to be Telecommunications Engineering, Information Engineering (I), and Computer Communications;
  • 1986, add a new major of Image Transmission and Processing;
  • 1988, Communication and Information System was approved to be the first batch of national key discipline;
  • 1989, Communication and Information System was approved to be postdoctoral research center;
  • 1989, establish the State Key Laboratory of ISN;
  • 1990, start Master’s degree program in cryptography;
  • 1993, start Doctor’s degree program in cryptography, which was one of the first two PhD programs in cryptography in China and the only PhD program outside the military;
  • 1999, approved to set the post of Distinguished Professors of the Yangtse River Scholars Program; Communication and Information System, and Cryptography were classified as “211 Project” key disciplines;
  • 2000, establish the Ministry of Information Industry Key Laboratory of Wireless Communications;
  • 2000, establish the discipline of Military Communications separately, start Master’s degree program;
  • 2000, set up a new major of Information Countermeasure;
  • 2002, set up a new major of Information Security;
  • 2002, establish the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Computer Network and Information Security;
  • 2003, start Master’s degree program in Traffic Information Engineering & Control and Doctor’s degree program in Military Communication;
  • 2004, start Master’s degree program and Doctor’s degree program in Information Security, Master’s degree program in Space Information Science and Technology, Master’s degree program and Doctor’s degree program in Optical Communication;
  • 2005, set up a new major of Spatial Information and Digital Technology;
  • 2005, start Doctor’s degree program in Space Information Science and Technology;
  • 2007, Cryptography was approved as a national key discipline;
  • 2007, establish the Wisdom Absorption Base of Modern Wireless Information Network Basic Theory and Technology Discipline Innovation (National “111” Project Base);
  • 2007,Telecommunications Engineering and Information Security were approved as as special major for national level.
  • 2008, Electronic Information Engineering (Information Theory direction) was renamed Information Engineering;
  • 2008, the research team of Broadband Wireless Communications won the title of Excellent Research & Innovation Team by the Ministry of Education;
  • 2008, Telecommunications Engineering was approved as special major for national defense;
  • 2009, Communication and Information Engineering Experimental Teaching Center was titiled as National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center;
  • 2010, establish Shaanxi Modern Wireless Communications Innovative Technologies R & D and support Public Service Platform;
  • 2010, start Doctor’s degree program in the first-level discipline of Military Command.
